O best of the Bharatas (Arjuna)

Krishna draws a clean conclusion. Every being that comes into existence — tree or mountain, bird or beast, human or insect — is born from the union of Kshetra and Kshetragna. Body and consciousness come together, and a living creature appears.

Neither the body alone nor the soul alone makes a being. It is their meeting point that produces life. Seeing this clearly — that every creature is this combination — opens the eyes of understanding.

This verse distills the chapter's central idea into its simplest form. What is born is a conjunction, not a single substance. The body is not everything. The soul is not everything by itself. Their union is what we call a living being.

In the Gita Press edition, this is the twenty-seventh shloka.
