Yach Chapi Sarvabhootanam

Gita 10.39 Bhagavad Gita
📖 Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 10 — Vibhuti Yoga
यच्चापि सर्वभूतानां बीजं तदहमर्जुन ।
न तदस्ति विना यत्स्यान्मया भूतं चराचरम् ॥
Yach chapi sarvabhootanam beejam tad aham arjuna,
Na tad asti vina yat syan maya bhootam characharam.
यत् च अपि
and whatever
सर्वभूतानाम्
of all beings
बीजम्
the seed
तत् अहम् अर्जुन
that I am, O Arjuna
न तत् अस्ति
there is nothing
विना
without
यत् स्यात्
that could exist
मया
Me
भूतम् चराचरम्
among beings, moving or still

This is the summary statement of the entire vibhuti catalogue. After listing dozens of examples, Krishna distills everything into one sentence: whatever is the seed of all beings — that is Me. Inside a seed, the whole tree sleeps. Inside the divine, the whole of creation sleeps.

Na tad asti vina yat syan maya — nothing exists that could be without Me. The most expansive sentence in the chapter. Moving things — animals, humans, rivers. Still things — mountains, trees, stones. Both. All of it. Everything. With this, Krishna draws the vibhuti list to its philosophical conclusion.

This shloka expands on 10.8's declaration: Aham sarvasya prabhavah — I am the origin of everything. There, Krishna said He is the source. Here, He says: without Me, nothing can exist. Together, the two shlokas paint the complete picture of divine pervasiveness.

A similar statement appears in 9.4-5: maya tatam idam sarvam — all of this is pervaded by Me. Shloka 10.39 is the Vibhuti Yoga's way of expressing the same truth.
