the poet Ushana (Shukracharya)

A remarkable moment in the Gita. Krishna names Himself — Vasudeva — as His own vibhuti among the Vrishni clan. And among the Pandavas, He names Arjuna — the very person sitting across from Him. The one listening to the teaching is himself declared a manifestation of the divine. There is no greater honour a teacher can offer a student.

Vyasa — the compiler of the Mahabharata. Ushana — Shukracharya, the guru of the Asuras and a great poet. Both are named as vibhutis. The message: whether knowledge or poetic power emerges from the devata side or the asura side, it is the same divine energy flowing through different channels.

Krishna naming Himself as Vasudeva is a unique moment of self-reference. It echoes the Upanishadic declaration Aham Brahmasmi — but in the specific, personal context of the Gita's narrative.

Calling Arjuna Dhananjaya (winner of wealth) is an act of affection here. The student sitting before the teacher is also a vibhuti. This vision elevates the guru-shishya bond to a sacred level.
