Yat Sankhyaih Prapyate

Gita 5.5 Bhagavad Gita
📖 Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 5 — Karma Sannyasa Yoga
यत्सांख्यैः प्राप्यते स्थानं तद्योगैरपि गम्यते ।
एकं सांख्यं च योगं च यः पश्यति स पश्यति ॥
Yat sankhyaih prapyate sthanam tad yogair-api gamyate
Ekam sankhyam cha yogam cha yah pashyati sa pashyati
यत्
that which
सांख्यैः
by Sankhya (knowledge)
प्राप्यते
is attained
स्थानम्
the state, the goal
तत्
that same
योगैः
by Yoga (action)
अपि
also
गम्यते
is reached
एकम्
as one
सांख्यम्
Sankhya
च योगम् च
and Yoga
यः
who
पश्यति
sees
सः पश्यति
that one truly sees

The state reached through Sankhya is the very same state reached through Yoga. Whoever sees these two as one — that person truly sees. Krishna repeats the word 'pashyati' twice for emphasis: sees, truly sees.

Two travelers arrive at the same fair from two different villages. Their routes were different, but the destination was the same. Knowledge and action both lead to the same Paramatma. Recognizing this unity is the mark of real understanding.

This shloka is the clearest declaration in the fifth chapter of the unity between knowledge and action. Krishna does not call either side misguided — both are valid paths. Tradition regards this verse as a symbol of the Advaita perspective: many paths, one goal.
