Krishna redefines what a sannyasi really is. A true renunciate does not hate anything and does not crave anything. Such a person does not give up clothes or leave the house — they simply stop the mind's restless chasing.

Think of an elderly grandmother who has no jealousy toward anyone, no demands from anyone. She lives at home, yet her mind is light and free. That is nirdvandvata — freedom from the pairs of opposites. A person in this state cannot be trapped by bondage.

This shloka gives the real definition of renunciation within Karma Sannyasa Yoga. Krishna emphasizes inner renunciation over outer appearances. Tradition holds that rising above the dvandvas — pleasure and pain, gain and loss — is the true path to freedom.
