These people cling to desires that can never be satisfied. Dushpuram — impossible to fill. Like pouring water into a pot with no bottom, no amount of getting ever becomes enough. One wish fulfilled immediately gives birth to the next. The hunger only grows.

They are filled with dambha (pretense), mana (pride), and mada (intoxication of ego). Under the spell of delusion, they adopt false beliefs — doctrines that serve their desires rather than challenge them. 'Life is short, enjoy it while you can' becomes their operating principle, stripped of any consideration for others.

Krishna calls them ashuchivratah — people whose very vows and commitments are impure. Whatever they resolve to do ends up causing harm. Their entire mode of living is built on a contaminated foundation. The intentions are selfish, the methods are dishonest, and the outcomes hurt everyone they touch.

The word dushpuram — 'that which can never be filled' — captures the nature of desire perfectly. One desire met spawns another. This is an endless cycle with no point of satisfaction.

Shlokas 16.8 through 16.12 build a complete picture of the demonic life: wrong thinking leads to wrong desires, which lead to wrong actions, which lead to suffering.
