The inventory of the field is now complete. Desire and aversion, pleasure and pain — these inner movements of the mind are also parts of the field. The bodily aggregate, the consciousness that animates it, and the capacity for steadfastness — all of this together is the field, described here along with its modifications.

Notice something striking: even pleasure and pain belong to the field, not to the soul. When we feel 'I am suffering,' that experience happens at the level of the body-mind. The Kshetragna — the inner witness — is neither happy nor sad.

Verses six and seven together complete the brief description of the field. This classification is common to both the Sankhya and Yoga traditions.

In the Gita Press edition, this is the seventh shloka. The word 'savikaram' (with its modifications) is important — the field is always changing. The Kshetragna does not change.
