One of the Gita's most luminous images. Krishna says: seated within their heart, I destroy the darkness born of ignorance with a shining lamp of knowledge. Picture a dark room. A single lamp is lit. The darkness does not resist, does not argue, does not fight. It simply vanishes. That is how knowledge works.

Atmabhavasthah — dwelling within the self. The divine is not somewhere far away, descending from the sky with a torch. He is already inside every being, waiting. When the devotee's devotion ripens, that inner presence begins to glow. The light does not arrive from outside. It awakens from within.

This shloka naturally extends 10.10. First, Krishna promised buddhi yoga. Now He explains how that buddhi yoga works: by sitting within the heart and lighting the lamp of knowledge.

Chapter 13 speaks of the kshetrajna — the knower of the field — the consciousness that knows everything. In 10.11, that same inner consciousness illuminates with compassion.
