Bhooya Eva Mahabaho

Gita 10.1 Bhagavad Gita
📖 Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 10 — Vibhuti Yoga
भूय एव महाबाहो शृणु मे परमं वचः ।
यत्तेऽहं प्रीयमाणाय वक्ष्यामि हितकाम्यया ॥
Bhooya eva mahabaho shrinu me paramam vachah,
Yatte'ham preeyamanaya vakshyami hitakamyaya.
भूयः
once again
एव
indeed
महाबाहो
O mighty-armed one (Arjuna)
शृणु
listen
मे परमं वचः
my supreme word
यत्
which
ते
to you
प्रीयमाणाय
to the one who is dear — to the beloved
वक्ष्यामि
I shall speak
हितकाम्यया
with the desire for your welfare

A new chapter opens with two quietly powerful words: once again. The ninth chapter had covered a vast landscape of knowledge. Yet Krishna does not stop. He speaks again — not because He enjoys hearing His own voice, but because Arjuna's welfare drives every word.

Two terms reveal the heart of this moment. Preeyamanaya tells us that Arjuna is dear to Krishna. Hitakamyaya tells us that Krishna speaks for Arjuna's good. Love and welfare together — that is the foundation on which the Gita rests. A teacher who loves the student, and a student who trusts the teacher. Without that bond, no amount of knowledge takes root.

This is the nature of a true guru. The lesson is not over until the student has truly understood. Repetition is not a sign of the teacher's impatience. It is a sign of the teacher's care.

This is the first shloka of Chapter 10, Vibhuti Yoga. In the ninth chapter, Krishna had described Rajavidya (the king of knowledge) and Rajaguhya (the most secret teaching). Now He moves into the divine manifestations — the specific ways in which He is present in the world.

According to the Bhagavad Gita, this knowledge bears fruit only when love and trust exist between teacher and student. That is why Krishna establishes the relationship first, before presenting the teaching.
