Tuesday

The day tradition associates with Hanuman
🪔 Hanuman and the planet Mangal
📖 Skanda Purana

The second day of the week is called Mangalvaar. Tradition has long associated it with Hanuman. Many devotees have visited Hanuman temples for darshan (sacred viewing of the deity) on this day.

Mangal is also the name of the planet Mars in the Indian planetary tradition. Mars has long been connected with strength and courage — the very qualities that tradition associates with Hanuman.

The Skanda Purana and other Puranic texts contain descriptions of Hanuman's glory. Tradition records that devotees have remembered Hanuman on Tuesdays. Many offer sindoor (vermilion) and chola on this day.

This observance is seen across most parts of northern India. Tuesdays of the waxing fortnight have traditionally been considered especially significant. All of this is part of a folk tradition that has been passed down over a long time.
