Krishna sets a clear benchmark. Whoever is able to withstand the force of desire and anger in this very life — before the body falls away — that person is the real yogi, and that person is truly happy.

Desire and anger strike with great force, like a sudden gust of wind at a flame. The person who does not get blown away in that moment — who pauses instead of reacting — that person has found real happiness.

This shloka speaks of practical discipline. The word 'ihaiva' — in this very life — recurs throughout the Gita, signaling that moksha and happiness need not wait for death. Tradition identifies desire (kama) and anger (krodha) as the two main gateways to bondage. This verse names the first condition for freedom from them: the capacity to endure their force.
