Krishna states the consequence of sama-darshana (equal vision). Those whose mind rests in equanimity have already conquered the cycle of birth and death — right here, in this life. Brahman is flawless and equal in all, and such people are established in Brahman.

A scale balanced on both sides is called steady. A person whose mind stays level through pleasure and pain, honor and insult, is free on this very earth. No future cycle binds them.

This shloka follows directly from 5.18 on sama-darshana. There Krishna described the vision of equality; here he states its fruit. Tradition gives special weight to the word 'ihaiva' — right here, in this birth. Moksha is not reserved for after death; it is attainable while alive.
