Na Buddhibhedam Janayet

Gita 3.26 Bhagavad Gita
📖 Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 3 — Karma Yoga
न बुद्धिभेदं जनयेदज्ञानां कर्मसङ्गिनाम् ।
जोषयेत्सर्वकर्माणि विद्वान्युक्तः समाचरन् ॥
Na buddhibhedam janayet ajnanam karma sanginam
Joshayet sarva karmani vidvan yuktah samacharan
not
बुद्धिभेदम्
confusion of intellect
जनयेत्
should create
अज्ञानाम्
of the ignorant
कर्मसङ्गिनाम्
who are attached to action
जोषयेत्
should inspire, should encourage
सर्वकर्माणि
in all actions
विद्वान्
the wise one
युक्तः
established in yoga
समाचरन्
performing action properly

This is remarkably practical advice. A wise person should not walk into a room of hardworking, sincere people and announce, 'All action is ultimately meaningless.' That may be philosophically defensible, but it would shatter the faith of those who are not ready to hear it.

Instead, the wise person leads by example. They perform their own duties with grace and skill, rooted in yoga, and in doing so they naturally inspire others to do the same. Teaching here happens through conduct, not through lectures.

This extends 3.25. Both the wise and the ignorant need to act. But the wise must act with an awareness of their responsibility toward those who are still learning.

Gita 18.67-18.68 echoes this caution: do not share this teaching with someone who is not ready to receive it.
