Tasmad Yasya Mahabaho

Gita 2.68 Bhagavad Gita
📖 Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 2 — Sankhya Yoga
तस्माद्यस्य महाबाहो निगृहीतानि सर्वशः ।
इन्द्रियाणीन्द्रियार्थेभ्यस्तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता ॥
Tasmad yasya mahabaho nigrihitani sarvashah
Indriyanindriyarthebhyas tasya prajna pratishthita
तस्मात्
therefore
यस्य
of whom
महाबाहो
O mighty-armed (Arjuna)
निगृहीतानि
restrained, disciplined
सर्वशः
from all sides, completely
इन्द्रियाणि
the senses
इन्द्रियार्थेभ्यः
from the sense-objects
तस्य प्रज्ञा प्रतिष्ठिता
that person's wisdom is established

Krishna draws the conclusion. Therefore — after all that has been said about the danger of uncontrolled senses, the boat swept by wind, the chain of desire and downfall — one whose senses are fully restrained from their objects has truly steady wisdom. The refrain tasya prajna pratishthita rings out again, like the final note of a raga returning to the tonic.

The repetition is deliberate. The Gita repeats what matters most. Sense-mastery and steady wisdom are bound together. Krishna has said it in 2.58, 2.61, and now again in 2.68 — each time from a slightly different angle, each time driving the point deeper.

This verse draws together the thread that began at 2.58 (the tortoise analogy) and ran through the warnings of 2.60 and 2.67. The word nigrihitani (restrained, disciplined) suggests not brutal suppression but trained, directed control.

After this summary conclusion, Krishna moves into the closing shlokas of Chapter 2 (2.69-72), which offer poetic and philosophical images to crown the Sthitaprajna teaching.
