Sarvakarmanyapi Sada

Gita 18.56 Bhagavad Gita
📖 Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 18 — Moksha Sannyasa Yoga
सर्वकर्माण्यपि सदा कुर्वाणो मद्व्यपाश्रयः ।
मत्प्रसादादवाप्नोति शाश्वतं पदमव्ययम् ॥
Sarvakarmanyapi sada kurvanah madvyapashrayah
Matprasadad avapnoti shashvatam padam avyayam
सर्वकर्माणि अपि
even all actions
सदा कुर्वाणः
always performing
मद्व्यपाश्रयः
one who has taken refuge in Me
मत्प्रसादात्
by My grace
अवाप्नोति
attains, reaches
शाश्वतम् पदम् अव्ययम्
the eternal, imperishable abode

No one needs to stop living in order to reach the highest. This is Krishna's clear assurance. Keep performing all your actions. Keep doing what needs to be done. But do it while taking refuge in Me. Through My grace, you will reach the eternal, imperishable abode.

This is where karma yoga and bhakti meet on the same ground. A farmer does not stop planting seeds — but if every seed is planted with an inner sense of offering, the farm becomes a temple. The outer activity stays the same. The inner orientation transforms everything.

The phrase 'matprasadat' — by My grace — is central here. Human effort matters, but the final result comes through divine grace. Effort opens the door. Grace carries you through it.

This shloka reinforces the Gita's consistent teaching on sharanagati (surrender). The message is not to renounce action, but to renounce the claim of ownership over it. Keep working. Keep living. But let the shelter shift — from ego to the Divine.

The concept of 'matprasad' — divine grace — appears as the cause of the highest attainment. This is not a new idea in the Gita, but at this stage, so close to the final teaching, it carries special weight.
