Krishna now reveals that the gunas shape not only our waking life but also what happens after death. When a person dies with sattva dominant, they reach the pure, stainless realms where the wise dwell.
The state of the mind at the time of death acts like a compass needle. Whatever direction it points, that is where the journey leads. If the final moments are peaceful, clear, and full of understanding — the hallmarks of sattva — the soul moves toward higher planes. These are described as "amala," spotless, free from suffering and impurity.
This is not meant as a scare tactic. It is simply cause and effect. The quality of inner life that a person cultivates day after day determines the quality of the mind at the moment of departure.
