In a thick jungle, there lived a powerful lion. Every single day, he killed many animals — not just for food, but for sport. The whole forest lived in fear.
One day, all the animals gathered together and went to the lion. 'Your Majesty,' they said, 'please hear our request. Every day, one of us will come to you willingly. There will be no more needless bloodshed.' The lion agreed.
One by one, the animals went. Then one day, it was the turn of a small hare. But this hare was clever. He had a plan.
He deliberately arrived late. The lion was furious. The hare trembled and said, 'Your Majesty, I was hurrying here when another lion stopped me on the path. He said — this jungle is mine!'
The lion roared with rage. 'Take me to him — right now!' The hare led the lion to a deep well.
The lion peered in. He saw his own reflection staring back. He growled — and the reflection growled back. Convinced this was his enemy, the lion leaped into the well — and was gone.
All the animals of the forest breathed freely for the first time. One small hare, without a single weapon, had freed the entire jungle from a tyrant.
