The Gayatri Mantra is considered the most sacred mantra in the entire Vedic tradition. It is a prayer for illumination — not physical light, but the divine light of understanding that clarifies the mind and shows us the truth.
We meditate on the radiance of Savita — the solar deity, the divine illuminer of all worlds. And we pray: may that light inspire our intellect. May our thinking be lit up from within.
Traditionally, the Gayatri is recited three times a day — at sunrise (Pratah Sandhya), at noon (Madhyahna Sandhya), and at sunset (Sayam Sandhya). These three moments of transition are considered especially auspicious for prayer.
