The first anuvak of Chamakam is a sequence of petitions in the style 'cha me' (and may I have this). The devotee asks for strength, inspiration, intelligence, the vital airs, and all the faculties of sense and knowledge. The repetition of 'cha me' (and to me) is what gives Chamakam its name.
