📖 Devi Bhagavata Purana, Seventh Skandha

According to the Seventh Skandha of the Devi Bhagavata Purana, when Mata Sati gave up her life at Daksha's yagna, Lord Shiva wandered in grief carrying her body. To protect creation, Lord Vishnu divided Sati's body with his Sudarshana Chakra. Wherever the parts of Sati's body fell, those places came to be known as Shakti Peethas (sacred seats of the Goddess).

According to tradition, it is said that Sati's brahmarandhra (crown of the head) fell at this place. The Shakti here is worshipped as Kottari and the Bhairav as Bhimalochana. This place is counted among the fifty-one Shakti Peethas in the Pithanirnayas Tantra.
