Wednesday

The day tradition associates with Ganesha
🪔 Ganesha and the planet Budh
📖 Brahmavaivarta Purana, Ganapati Khanda

The third day of the week is called Budhvaar. Budh is the name of the planet Mercury in the Indian planetary tradition. The day takes its name from this planet.

Tradition has long associated Wednesday with Ganesha. Ganesha is remembered as Vighnaharta — the remover of obstacles — and as the deity of wisdom and intellect.

The Ganapati Khanda of the Brahmavaivarta Purana contains an extensive account of Ganesha's legends. It includes many episodes describing Ganesha's birth and glory. Tradition records that many devotees have remembered Ganesha on Wednesdays.

The Ganapati Atharvashirsha also contains a hymn in praise of Ganesha. This text is considered an ancient Upanishadic composition. In many parts of northern and western India, the tradition of visiting Ganesha temples on Wednesdays has continued for a long time.
